too many devices so little ports

I've got tons of devices connected to my router. Ooma Telo(VOIP), Printer, desktop, and SONOS. What should I do when I run out of ethernet ports on my router?

Add a switch to extend the number of ports. One port on the switch will go to one LAN port on the router.

The devices you mention are all 100BaseT devices, so you could realistically get a 10/100 switch. Gigabit switches aren't much more and could give you room to grow if you get gigabit devices in the future. When it comes to switches they are all pretty much the same, some manufactures like D-Link (last I checked) have lifetime warranties. That's nice on small fanless devices where heat over time may be a concern.

Here are a couple example devices:

    D-Link DES-108 8-Port Fast Ethernet Switch 10/100Mbps - $39.99

    D-Link DGS-108 8-Port Gigabit Switch 10/100/1000Mbps - $64.99

Is it safe if you add a switch to accommodate all of your devices?

Yes, adding a switch is just fine. Which one were you thinking of getting?
