    Strange read speeds

    Model Name: MacBook Pro
    Model Identifier: MacBookPro3,1
Processor Name: Intel Core 2 Duo
    Processor Speed: 2.2 GHz
    Number of Processors: 1
    Total Number of Cores: 2
    L2 Cache: 4 MB
    Memory: 4 GB
    Bus Speed: 800 MHz
    System Version: OS X 10.8.5 (12F45)
    Kernel Version: Darwin 12.5.0

    Gateway notebook P-7811FX (MS2252)
    Intel Centrino Duo 2 P8400@2.26GHz
    RAM: 4GB
    nvidia GeForce 9800M GTS
64-bit OS windows 7 home premium

So I have the LST server on a notebook-windows 7 and am trying from a macbookpro with the lite client connected directly a 1GB netgear GS724TP (24 port 1000M POE) switch

I like the writes, but the reads ??? Pretty weird.

So the big question is....great write at 819Mbps, but why the crappy read at 17Mbps when its to the LST server which is in memory aka no hard drive read/writes ?

Obviously, the switch and cables are good if its writing at 819Mbps.

    Curiouser and curiouser !!!

I added the LST server to my tower and ran the tests from the Gateway notebook. NOTE: I have already changed cables and retested above with no change.

So I run the LAN test Lite...

    Version 1.3.1
    OS Version: Windows 7
    Processor: Intel(R) Core(TM)2 Duo CPU P8400 @ 2.26GHz
    Date: 05/23/2014
    Time: 10:46:22
    Program Parameters: 0
    High Performance Timer: 0.0000004529

    Server IP: 192.168.44.142
    Server Port: 4456
Connected to LST Server v1.3. Your IP address is 192.168.44.242.
    Write Time = 0.2172128 Seconds
    Write Speed = 736.6046880 Mbps
    Read Time = 0.1794304 Seconds
    Read Speed = 891.7105760 Mbps

    Looking good !!!

I install and register the client on the Gateway notebook...

    "Date","Time","Computer","IP Address","MAC Address","Folder Or Server IP","Packet Size","# Packets","# Streams","RTT (LST Server)","Write Speed","Units","Read Speed","Units","Status","Notes"
    "2014-05-23","10:51:42","carol-PC","192.168.44.242","00-1D-72-C8-6C-F1","192.168.44.142","1,000,000","10","","0.77 ms","171.0835840","Mbps","782.7804000","Mbps"," (Average)",""

Hmmm... so the lite is write/read 736Mb/891Mb and the licenced version at its default settings give write/read 171Mb/782Mb.

Wonder what is different in the Lite's default settings and what else is going on.

    Hi,

Was this last test with Kaspersky on or off? I have seen one version test better than the other with certain Anti-viruses enabled as they do test slightly different (adjustable packet sizes, multiple packets, etc.). Also, did you replace your cables with new cables or swapped them around? It's possible for one of the wires in the cable to be bad - therefore good speeds one direction but not the other. That wouldn't explain the difference between Lite vs full version of LAN Speed Test though. What happens if you make the full version test like the lite - one big file vs 10 packets that are 1 MB?
